CISRS Operative Training Scheme (COTS)

Course content 

• General responsibilities
• Basic scaffolding terminology (components and application)
• Servicing of equipment (tube, fittings, boards etc.)
• Boards and stock – quality control
• Health, welfare, hygiene and housekeeping
• Electrical safety
• Fire prevention and control
• Noise and vibration
• Working at height
• Accident prevention and reporting
• Slips, trips and falls
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Transport safety on site
• Equipment and tools
• Manual handling (including loading and unloading)
• Lifting equipment using rope and wheel
• Questions/test paper

Delegates wishing to book one of these courses will be required to have a CITB HS&E Test (or exemption) in place at the time of booking. The CITB HS&ETest needs to have been passed within the previous 23 months before the course start date. 

Qualification you gain & how to renew

CISRS Scaffolding Operative Training Scheme (COTS) certificate 

Labourer Card- valid for 5 years. To renew your card, you need to have completed a COTS course & CITB HS&E test (or exemption) within 2 years.

Trainee scaffolder card – delegates must have completed the 1 day COTS course and passed the CITB HS&E test (or valid exemption) to hold their first 18-month Trainee Scaffolder card. They will then be expected to complete the following training within the validity of a maximum of 2x 18-month CISRS Trainee Scaffolder cards:

• CISRS Part 1
• CISRS Part 2 
• NVQ Level 2/SCQF Level 5
• CISRS 1 Day Skills Test.

CITB Grants 

If your company is CITB registered, please provide your CITB levy number upon booking. Delegates will need to provide their full name, address, national insurance number and date of birth if you would like to claim for a grant, failure to do so will mean the delegates' achievement will not be uploaded and your grant will not be paid. Please provide the information to the training team before the course to avoid delay.
