Overview
The CITB Health, safety and environment (HS&E) test is an important way for construction workers to show they can work safely. For employers, having workers who have passed the CITB HS&E test is assurance that their workforce can keep themselves and those around them safe.
The CITB HS&E test forms a key part of the requirement to obtain a construction industry scheme card.
Tests
There are three types of HS&E test:
- Operatives
- Specialists
- Managers and Professionals
You can use the CSCS card finder ( https://www.cscsonline.uk.com/card-finder ) to check which HS&E test you need.
Structure of the tests
Each of the Heath, safety and environment tests last for 45 minutes and contain 50 questions.
CSCS cards
This course is also an alternative route to the QCF Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment for the CSCS Labourer Card.
Delegates need to complete the one day course and CITB HS&E Operatives test which is booked separately. When both have been completed and you have received the relevant certification you can then apply for your CSCS card.
CITB Grants

Delegates will need to provide their full name, address, national insurance number and date of birth if you would like to claim for a grant, failure to do so will mean the delegates' achievement will not be uploaded and your grant will not be paid.
